Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association
The mission of the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association is to enable the cranberry industry in Wisconsin to prosper through the provision of grower information, responsible environmental stewardship, sound governmental policies and effective public communications.
The Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association was founded in 1887 to serve the needs of the state's cranberry growers. Over the course of its history the association has proved time and again that it is the best organization to represent growers' interests. As a result, Wisconsin is a leader in cranberry production. During the past decade the WSCGA has become much more active in its programs.
History of the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association
In 1989 the board and membership recognized the need to expand the association's programs and hired its first full time staff and established a permanent office in Wisconsin Rapids. Subsequent to that, the association also retained legislative counsel to represent the association in the state legislature as well as with state regulatory agencies. During that time the association has been able to protect growers' water diversion rights and initiate legislation to benefit the entire grower community.
In 1995 and 1996 the WSCGA Board embarked on the development of a strategic plan to identify growers' needs and position the association to provide programs to meet these needs. As a result of the strategic plan WSCGA sharpened its focus on education programs for the grower community as well as the general public.
WSCGA is committed to developing and implementing programs which will assist growers in doing a better job of growing cranberries and strengthen the public support for cranberry growing in Wisconsin.
